What is the transportation plan?
Transportation to and from camp of both gear and young women will be arranged by the camp directors.
Gear must be dropped off at the Gear and Medication Drop on Monday, June 9, 2025, 5:30-7pm. Young women can bring their daypack with them on Tuesday to hold their lunch and a waterbottle, etc. But all other luggage must go in the trailers on Monday night.
What do I do if I need to arrive late to or leave early from camp?
If you need to arrive late to camp or leave early from camp, transportation is the responsibility of the parents. Please clear your plan with the camp director in advance.
Where will I be sleeping?
Girls camp cabins are A-Frame cabins with wooden bunks. Bring a comfortable sleeping pad (not a yoga mat), as the bunks are hard, a warm sleeping bag, and pillow. An extra blanket is a good idea as nights can get chilly
What should I bring?
The pack list is on this website under the Campers tab. Pack early and pack your bag yourself. Bring one bag for luggage, not a wheeled suitcase. Bring a separate large garbage bag for your sleeping bag, pad, and pillow and label it with your name and ward. In fact, label everything with your name and ward.
It’s important to bring a warm sleeping bag —the nights can get chilly. Bring an extra garbage bag to carry sleeping items home because bags frequently rip or are lost. Bring a refillable water bottle. Disposable plastic bottles do not hold enough water, and are not durable enough for the week.
Do not bring phones, even to use as a camera. You can bring point and shoot digital/disposable cameras. There will be camp photographers that will share their photos.
Do not bring smart watches. However, a cheap, basic watch is encouraged.
What should I wear?
It is important to wear proper clothing for active outdoor activities. Camp Ritchie sits at a high elevation where we burn more easily. We are also going at the beginning of the summer, when our skin isn't used to being outside as much. Wear clothing to protect you from the sun as well as from the boulders and rocks in camp. Bring a hat and wear sunscreen. Swimwear should be appropriate for athletic water activities, and good hiking shoes are a must. At least one pair of pants will be required for rappelling, but you may want more warm clothes because June nights can be very chilly!
Do I need to pack food or snacks?
Make sure to eat a good breakfast before camp. All young women will need to bring a big sack lunch on Tuesday. The first meal provided at Camp Ritchie will be dinner.
Other than lunch for the first day, no other food should be packed. The food at camp is plentiful and yummy! It is important to eat at mealtimes and to drink plenty of water to keep up energy and hydration. Do not bring extra treats, there are plenty at camp. NO FOOD IN THE CABINS because it will attract mice and possibly larger animals.
If there are any food allergies or concerns, please make sure that is noted in registration, or let us know so we can plan any necessary accommodations.
How do I make payments for camp?
Pay for camp directly through your ward using a tithing envelope. In the “Other” category, write “girls camp” and your name.
What will I be doing at camp?
There will be many activities including: Waterfront (with lifeguards) will include a swim test to ensure everyone's safety in the water. It includes swimming a certain distance, treading water, and floating. There will be boating, kayaking, and swimming at Bear River Reservoir. Climbing, rappelling, archery, creation, and spiritual rotations will also be part of the week at camp.
Hiking: You will go on a day hike, so bring a day backpack for the hike. Bring a good pair of sturdy and supportive athletic or hiking shoes and break them in now. Do not wear Converse or Vans style shoes, as they are not supportive enough for the mountainous terrain.
Overnight backpacking: 4th year girls will take part in a one night backpacking trip.
I need to take medications. How do I do that?
Your mediations will be kept in the medic/nurse's cabin, and the medical personnel at camp will administer your medications as needed. Please drop off all medications at the gear and medication drop off on Monday, June 9 with the medication form. Medication needs to be in the original container, in a zip-lock baggie, with the camp medication form. The medication form is available on this website under the Campers tab.
I leave for camp in a few days and I don't feel well. How sick is too sick to attend camp?
Please refer to the Young Women Camp Medical Guidelines here.
