The Do's for Camp Ritchie
Camp Ritchie Do’s for a Fun Camp Experience
The privilege of coming to Camp Ritchie requires that everyone abide by the following:
DO obey all standards as outlined in the For The Strength of Youth booklet, including thoughts, behavior, and appearance.
DO dress for a safe camp experience. Wear closed-toe shoes (flip flops worn in showers only), shirts with sleeves, and modest shorts. Consider pants for some activities, such as rock climbing/rappelling, to avoid scratches. Do bring a modest swimsuit that is appropriate for athletic activities.
Let the following principles be your guide. Counsel with your Heavenly Father and your parents about it:
“Our clothing expresses who we are. It sends messages about us, and it influences the way we and others act. When we are well groomed and modestly dressed, we can invite the companionship of the Spirit and exercise a good influence on those around us.” (www.ChurchofJesusChrist.org/Study/Manual/Gospel-Topics/Modesty)
“Avoid styles that emphasize or draw inappropriate attention to your physical body instead of who you are as a child of God with an eternal future. Let moral cleanliness and love for God guide your choices. Seek counsel from your parents.” (For the Strength of Youth: A Guide for Making Choices) (https://site.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/for-the-strength-of-youth/06-body?lang=eng&v=V01)
DO disconnect from technology (leave all electronics, phones, smartwatches, hair dryers and curling irons at home).
DO show respect for Camp Ritchie with no graffiti, litter, or destruction of property.
DO participate with cooperation and enthusiasm at all capers(chores) and activities.
DO turn in all prescription and over the counter medications—in their original bottle—to camp medical staff.
DO let your Adult Cabin Leader know where you are going at all times.
DO use the buddy system to go anywhere, even to the Medic and the bathroom.
DO be on time to all scheduled activities and capers.
DO clean up after yourself, no matter where you are. Leave things better than you found them.
DO dispose of tampons or pads in a brown paper bag and dispose of them in the can by the toilet. The camp toilets clog easily.
DO stay in camp. If you need to arrive late or leave early, please clear it in advance with the Camp Director.
DO keep ALL food in the kitchen/lodge, NOT the cabins. It will attract unwanted wildlife.
DO respect everyone at camp.
Respect the cooks by staying out of the kitchen and keeping the lodge clean at mealtimes.
Respect your peers by not touching their belongings or participating in destructive pranks, gossip, or inappropriate jokes/stories.
DO follow all safety rules:
Only use rappelling or archery equipment with adult staff present.
Only go to waterfront at scheduled times. Waterfront is only to be used when the waterfront staff is present. Fire trail to be used only by adults.
Only use fire escape ladders, fire hoses,
Buckets & extinguishers in an emergency (do NOT touch or move emergency equipment otherwise).
Follow all instructions given by adult activity leaders.
